THE MYSTERY SCHOOL PRESENTS

Sacred Tools for a Sacred Life

Rattle Making

A 2-Day ceremonial workshop

APRIL 25TH & 26TH

Palmer House NE Portland, Oregon

CREATE A SACRED TOOL

CONNECT TO YOUR OWN ANCESTRAL REMEMBERING

Rattles are one of the oldest ceremonial instruments known to humanity.
Across cultures, sacred sound has accompanied prayer, healing, storytelling, initiation, and celebration.

From European earth-based traditions to the many Indigenous lineages of the Americas, Africa, and beyond — rhythm and rattle have helped people enter altered states, clear space, and call upon spiritual support.

Sacred tools are part of our shared lineages.

You feel the pull toward the sacred.
Now it’s your turn to bring something sacred into form.

In this two-day workshop, we gather in a ceremonial community setting to create.

We’ll honor the making of your rattle — in good relationship with the materials, the lineage of the craft, and your personal process.

Rhythm & Flow

Day Two — Completion

We gather again as community. You'll complete and adorn your rattle, refine its sound, listening and adjusting until the tone feels right. We’ll close together in ceremony, initiating our rattles.

Day One — Creation

We begin with opening ceremony and shared intention. From there, you will be guided through the first stages of creating your rattle. Your rattle will be formed and set to dry overnight.

You’ll set intentions, be guided through meditation, and call forth the wisdom of your ancestors. At completion, we will activate our rattles together.

The Nature of a Rattle

No two are alike.

Some carry a soft, soothing tone.
Some awaken the room the moment they are shaken.

The Materials

You'll be making an animal hide rattle with a wooden handle. All supplies and adornments are provided — hide, string, beads, paint, corn, and natural elements.

You are invited to bring a personal, special, or sacred object to place inside your rattle.

Please bring your own lunch, or food cart pods are just across the street. We may eat together, or you're welcome to walk the neighborhood or sit on the lawn.

About the Mystery School

A school devoted to making spiritual power real — and lived.

Founded by Amber Jane Arquette, the Mystery School exists for those who feel called to walk a deeper path. Not just to study it — but to embody it.

Through self-mastery, energy mastery, and reconnection to ancient wisdom, these teachings offer practical, ethical, and embodied pathways for people who are ready to step into their own spiritual authority.

Sacred skills are taught here with reverence for lineage, relationship, and responsibility. Cass Estes has been invited to bring her wisdom, skills, and warmth to these sacred tool workshops, offered throughout the year.

This rattle workshop is one of many pathways into embodied remembering.
There is more coming. You are welcome here.
