Why Can't I Heal Myself?

What Soul Loss Is Really Doing to Your Healing Journey

By Amber Jane | Shamanic Healer, Seer & Teacher

If you've been doing the work — therapy, somatic practices, energy work, meditation, journaling — and still feel like something fundamental isn't shifting, this is for you.

You're not broken. You're not doing it wrong. And you are not alone in this.

There is something deeper happening, and it has a name.

The Promise and the Pressure of Self-Healing

For decades, the personal growth world has told us: everything you need is within you. And in many beautiful ways, that is true. You are resourced. You are wise. You carry your own medicine.

But when that message becomes the only message, it quietly turns into a burden. It says: if you haven't healed yet, you must not be trying hard enough. You must not want it badly enough. You must be doing something wrong.

I have sat across from so many people — brilliant, courageous, deeply committed people — who have internalized that failure story. They've spent years blaming themselves for the gap between all the work they've done and the resolve they still can't seem to reach.

What I want to say to all of them — and to you — is this: the gap is not a personal failing. It's a symptom.

What Soul Loss Actually Is

In shamanic healing traditions spanning thousands of years across cultures worldwide, there is a well-documented phenomenon called soul loss. It is understood as what happens when we experience trauma so significant — in this life or others — that a part of our essential self separates and moves beyond our reach.

Lost is our personal power; lost are those soul pieces.

This is not metaphor. This is a mechanism.

When we suffer profound wounding, a piece of our soul essence goes elsewhere — to protect itself, to survive. It doesn't return on its own. And the part of us that needs the healing, that would receive the healing, is simply not present to receive it.

This is why all the awareness in the world doesn't always create the change we expect. Why we can understand our patterns completely and still repeat them. Why the breakthrough keeps almost-arriving but never landing.

I know this from my own life. For years I had deep self-awareness about the cycles I was caught in, and where they may have come from. I could see it clearly. I could not reclaim it.

Not until I had my own soul pieces returned to me — and then something shifted at the root. I leaped forward in ways I hadn't been able to with any amount of effort alone.

That is what soul retrieval makes possible.

Signs You May Be Experiencing Soul Loss

These are the patterns I see most frequently in clients who come to me after years of dedicated healing work:

  • A persistent feeling that something is missing, even when life looks good on the outside

  • Emotional numbness, disconnection, or a sense of going through the motions

  • Healing breakthroughs that don't seem to hold or integrate

  • Repeating relationship, financial, or health patterns despite significant inner work

  • Feeling like you're working twice as hard as everyone else just to feel okay

  • A deep exhaustion that isn't just physical

  • Sensing that part of you is somewhere else, or hasn't fully arrived into your life

If you recognize yourself here, please hear me: this is not a character flaw. This is a spiritual and energetic reality — and it is addressable.

Why You Still Need Your Participation

Soul retrieval is not something that happens to you. It is something that happens within you.

All the work you have done — every therapy session, every retreat, every practice — it matters. It builds the foundation. When your soul pieces are returned and reintegrated, that foundation becomes the landing pad for everything you've cultivated. All of it finally has a place to land.

You become more present to your own life. Your choices carry more weight. The healing you've been reaching for becomes available in a new way — because the part of you that needed it is now there to receive it.

My Work and Why It's Different

I am a trained and initiated shamanic healer, seer, and teacher. My practice is built on years of formal training, direct initiation, and ongoing relationship with healing allies who guide and support this work. I don't approach soul retrieval as a concept or a framework — I do it as a living practice, with precision, discernment, and spiritual protection for every client I work with.

What that means in practice: I know how to locate where soul pieces have gone, what questions to ask, what to look for, and how to safely retrieve what belongs to you.

In some cases this is a reclamation. In others, particularly when soul pieces have been taken through manipulation or harmful dynamics, it requires the kind of strategic, protected retrieval that my allies and I are trained to do.

This work has transformed my life and the lives of hundreds of clients. I don't say that to impress you. I say it because I want you to know that what you're longing for is real — and reachable.

An Invitation

If you've read this far and something in you quietly said yes, this is it — I want you to trust that recognition.

You don't have to keep trying to fight your way to wholeness on your own. There is support available to you. There are people trained specifically for this — and I am one of them.
