This blog draws inspiration from Tricia Hersey, specifically episode 185 of "For The Wild," where her wisdom illuminated the significance of rest as a potent tool for peace and healing.

As a medicine woman and healing practitioner, I've always recognized the value of slowing down; these concepts have long been an integral part of my world. I'm willing to bet you're also well-versed in the realm of self-care practices.

But what if these rituals of self-care transcended personal boundaries and became acts of goodwill toward the world? As Tricia eloquently puts it, taking radical action toward a solution can help us break free from the shackles of oppression.

Have you ever grappled with thoughts like:

  • Believing your productivity defines your self-worth.

  • Equating your work with your value.

  • Finding rest appealing but feeling too overwhelmed by your tasks?

What if I told you that this restlessness might be silently undermining your spiritual well-being and ultimately your productivity?

The hustle and bustle of life gradually severs your connection to your inner self and to the greater spiritual forces—Nature, Spirit, Creator, and God. As these connections fade, so does our consideration for the world around us, particularly our planet.

Here are a few practical steps you can do in a minute to help you realign when you notice that "doing" has overtaken "being."

SLOW SPIRALING THOUGHTS - CLEAR URGENT ENERGIES:

Your mind is wired for activity; gently redirect it with these practices that can bring tranquility and inner peace.

  • Try mantras like: "Life can come to me with ease and grace, now.." or "What other possibilities exist here?"

  • Observe your surroundings; noting colors and things you appreciate while letting go of the rest. Apply this to nature as well, finding beauty in landscapes or potted plants. Keep focusing on what pleases you.

  • Experiment with various breathing techniques. Start with inhaling for 4 seconds, holding for 4 seconds, and exhaling for 4 seconds.

  • A brief session of tapping on EFT points can be beneficial; target points include the top of your chest, the side of your hand, the top of your head, and your temples. “Even though I’m overwhelmed, I love and appreciate myself.”

  • Sing along to music; it's challenging for the mind to multitask. Use this to your advantage.

10-MINUTE BREAK (Activate airplane mode on your phone.)

  • Close your eyes and take deep breaths.

  • Place your hand on your heart or belly and acknowledge your body. Express gratitude.

  • Anoint yourself with essential oils - here are some of my favorites.

  • Connect with the earth by removing your shoes and grounding yourself on the grass or sand.

  • Send a text to two people you cherish, expressing your appreciation and well-wishes.

  • Spend time gazing at the clouds and sky.

  • Close your eyes and listen attentively, noting all the sounds you can hear.

  • Shake your body; somatic release can occur through this unusual practice.

DAILY CHOICES - PICK FROM THIS LIST:

  • Prioritize natural ways to achieve restful sleep.

  • Stay hydrated; it benefits both your brain and your body's overall functioning.

  • Engage in creative activities—art, cooking, music—that unleash your imagination.

  • Regularly listen to uplifting music or sound healing; here's [my Spotify Playlist](link) and a [sound healing library on Bandcamp](link).

  • Create or visit a personal altar.

  • Place fresh flowers in your living space.

  • Draw an Oracle card.

  • Allow your mind to wander; get lost in your thoughts.

  • Keep a journal for your thoughts, dreams, or prompts. Embrace the imperfections, leaving unfinished sentences and spelling errors.

  • Opt for a screen-free evening, free from movies and media, including your phone.

  • Write a letter or card to someone meaningful.

  • Take a nature walk.

CLEANSE YOUR ENERGY FIELD:

  • Soak in salt baths or salt foot soaks.

  • Burn herbs to instantly soothe your senses.

  • Wash your hands.

  • Stand in the wind, sun, or moonlight, inviting the elements to cleanse you.

  • Use a selenite wand to cleanse your body.

  • Engage in toning, humming, or chanting to soothe and clear your body.

I encourage you to minimize the use of the word 'busy.' Phrases like "I'm so busy" or "everyone's busy" often deflect responsibility. We have chosen our commitments, and these statements can obscure our own agency over our time and actions.

If you feel like life is unfolding without your control, start with the practices outlined in this blog. Dedicate moments to yourself, and as you engage in these restful practices, pay attention to what truly nourishes you.

FIND WHAT REALLY DOES IT FOR YOU!

I once used to fill my bath with bubbles and light candles, attempting to relax. However, after years of this routine, I admitted to myself that it wasn't truly relaxing. I discovered that I prefer different ways of self-care. Give yourself the permission to explore what truly fills your cup—it might surprise you.

What do you need to make this shift toward a slower pace effortless? How will this transformation manifest in your life? Unveil your support network. What choices will you make today to nurture your peace and serenity?

May this guidance bolster your journey in embracing "Rest as Resistance."

Warmly,

Amber Jane
